Sweet potato is only a distant relative of potatoes and still contain a large quantity of starches plus much more sugar than potatoes so in the dietary sense it contains more calories than potato but much easier to digest.If you follow a diet to loose weigh (I am not familiar with the South Beach diet,I live on the opposite side of the planet) it will not hurt you to eat them provided that you only eat a small quantity and you eat them just boiled or backed in their own jacket.
